The Fruit of Silence
Beethoven in the Present , a musical dialogue across time
Conceived by pianist Mara Dobresco, The Fruit of Silence offers an original perspective on the final piano sonatas of Ludwig van Beethoven (Opp. 109 and 110), placing them in dialogue with works by contemporary composers Philippe Hersant and Oscar Strasnoy.
Through this deeply personal programme, Mara Dobresco creates a true musical conversation beyond time. The contemporary works do not merely comment on Beethoven; they extend his artistic gesture, exploring the same territories of silence, fragility, light and spirituality, revealing the striking modernity and emotional power of his music.
Oscar Strasnoy’s Le Tombeau de Monjeau resonates closely with Sonata Op.109, while Philippe Hersant’s Benedictus enters into dialogue with Op.110 and the spiritual world of the Missa Solemnis. Alongside them, the music of Pēteris Vasks through The Fruit of Silence opens a suspended space where sound seems to emerge from silence itself.
Conceived as a truly immersive listening experience, the concert invites audiences into an intimate and contemplative journey, where the works unfold in an almost meditative continuity. Through Mara Dobresco’s artistic vision, Beethoven appears in a new light: not as a distant monument of the past, but as a living voice in profound resonance with our contemporary world.
Bringing together heritage and creation, The Fruit of Silence offers audiences an experience that is at once intimate, contemporary and deeply universal, a space where silence itself becomes music.
